"I was invited to the initial launch of the project, when the solar car was still a concept, and at the kind invitation of Dr. Spiers I became involved in some of the design and execution of the building process, and I carried out the final examination of the vehicle and certified it as being roadworthy prior to it being shipped to Australia."

Last year's entry into the Solar Challenge surpassed all expectations and I doubt there are sufficient superlatives to describe it. To design and build such an innovative vehicle was a fantastic achievement for the Ardingly, however to get it to the start line some 15000 kilometres away, to take part and complete the race alongside some of the world's leading academic establishments was truly momentous.

DHL were proud to support the College in ensuring the car arrived in Australia safely and on time. As the World's leading logistic's company DHL is constantly seeking ways to reduce climate-damaging CO2 emissions and other environmental impacts in the transportation and storage of goods. At DHL, we call this GOGREEN and we believe that environmental protection and business success are not just compatible, they are closely interlinked. Our planetary resources are finite and becoming scarce, thus it's important that Academia and Industry work together to found sustainable transport solutions and hence why DHL were pleased to be able to support Ardingly's fantastic achievement

"I first became aware of the project through a friend, his daughter (Shelby Weeden) was a student at Ardingly and was involved with the project. Due to my background in Formula 1 and engineering, I thought that I would be able to assist from both a technical and operational standpoint. My offer of assistance was accepted and I have been able to give the project access to many different areas of expertise from aerodynamics to battery technology."

"I maintain an interest because I am passionate about engineering and have been enormously impressed by the calibre of person that I have met and therefore want to continue to help. I hope that the access to the knowledge within McLaren that I can bring will continue to be of benefit."
